lion with report cards behind

Rock Hill, SC — November 3, 2025 — Riverwalk Academy is proud to announce outstanding results from the South Carolina Department of Education’s 2025 School Report Cards. The charter school, serving around 800 students in grades K–12, earned its highest overall ratings in school history — including an “Excellent” rating for the high school, a continued “Good” rating for the elementary school, and significant progress at the middle school, which was less than a quarter-point away from “Good.”

“These results reflect years of steady growth, stability, and belief in our mission,” said Dr. Robert Compton, Head of School. “Our teachers, students, and families have built something special here, a school community defined by high expectations, strong relationships, and pride in every step.”

Highlights from the 2025 Report Cards

High School Rated “Excellent”

Riverwalk achieved its first Excellent rating, placing among the top charter high schools in South Carolina.

  • 100% graduation rate

  • 76.5% of students college or career ready — double the district average

Students also performed well on state end-of-course assessments, with 75.5% of students earning a C or higher in English 2, well above the state average, and steady gains across all tested subjects.

Elementary School Rated “Good”

ELA proficiency reached a record 70.4%, outperforming both district and state averages. Math proficiency rose to 48%, up more than 10 points since 2021, and the school continues to post above-state growth scores in both ELA and math for the third consecutive year. Over 90% of first graders are on track in reading, and nearly 80% of second graders are on pace in math — evidence of a strong early-learning foundation.

Teacher retention remains above 90%, and parent satisfaction above 93%.

Middle School Rated “Average” (0.24 Points from “Good”)

Just 0.24 points away from a “Good” rating, the middle school continues to demonstrate steady academic progress and exceptional school culture. ELA proficiency climbed to 67.6%, surpassing the state average, while student growth rebounded strongly to 45.3% overall, above the state average. Math proficiency increased 8 points from the prior year, showing sustained recovery and momentum.

96% of parents report Riverwalk is a safe school, and students consistently highlight supportive relationships and a strong sense of belonging.

A Culture of Growth and Stability

Across all grade levels, Riverwalk continues to outperform district averages in key indicators of academic progress, culture, and teacher retention:

  • Teacher retention above 90%

  • Advanced degrees among teachers have doubled since 2018

  • Parent satisfaction is above 95% across the school

“The report card numbers are just one reflection of what makes Riverwalk special,” added Dr. Compton. “We’re most proud that our students feel known, our teachers feel supported, and our families feel connected. That’s what drives long-term success. In addition to mastering world-class knowledge, our students are excelling in the areas of world-class skills and life and career characteristics — the very qualities that complete the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.”
