Rock Hill, SC — Riverwalk Academy is proud to announce that Ms. Erica McCray, Elementary Principal, has been named a 2025 Milken Educator Award recipient, one of the most prestigious recognitions in education. The surprise announcement was made today during a special assembly on campus, led by South Carolina State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver and representatives from the Milken Family Foundation.
Often referred to as the “Oscars of Teaching,” the Milken Educator Award honors outstanding educators across the nation for their excellence, leadership, and impact on student achievement. Award recipients do not apply for the honor and are unaware they have been selected until the moment of the announcement.
Ms. McCray was recognized for her exceptional leadership, her commitment to fostering a strong school culture, and the remarkable academic growth seen at Riverwalk Academy under her guidance.
“This is a monumental moment for Riverwalk Academy,” said Dr. Robert Compton, Head of School. “Ms. McCray embodies everything that makes education transformational: heart, skill, and an unwavering belief in her students and staff. We are incredibly proud to see her honored on a national stage.”
In response to receiving the award, Ms. McCray shared, “I am honored to receive the Milken Award. This recognition means so much, and I am grateful for my students, colleagues, and community who inspire me every day.”
The Milken Educator Award includes an unrestricted $25,000 cash prize and provides recipients with lifelong access to a national network of distinguished educators and professional learning opportunities.
Riverwalk Academy extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ms. McCray on this extraordinary achievement and thanks Superintendent Weaver, the Milken Family Foundation, and all who helped make today’s celebration unforgettable.
